I got ready as fast as I could in as little time as possible

I hopped on my bike and pedaled to the diner as fast as I can. oh my god I hope the boss isn't there today.

"Oh hey! there was the girl who was supposed to help me open!" Jess says to me. I was still trying to catch my breath, I pedaled so so hard. God I wish I had a car. Jess, who sees I'm clearly exhausted, says "ok girl, sit down and take a breather!" They walk into the kitchen and come out with a glass of water, which they set on the table in front of me. after taking a few big gulps, I ask "Is boss here?"

"nope. you lucked out!" they answer. I get up and walk to the kitchen, bringing my glass of water with me. "how's it been today?"

"surprisingly, not that busy. The morning rush has been pretty tame..." Jess stops and looks directly towards me "That being said, it was still a rush. Kinda hard to handle on your own. Please don't make a habit of being this late, especially if you're the opener."
